What we collect
When you sign up:
- your email address
- the page you signed up on
- the date and time, your IP address and browser user agent, recorded when you sign up and again when you confirm
We collect the last item as evidence that you asked to subscribe.
We don’t buy, rent or import email lists. Every subscriber signs up themselves.
How you subscribe (double opt-in)
After you enter your email address, we send you one confirmation email. You only receive the newsletter after you click the button in that email. If you don’t confirm within 7 days, we delete your details.
What we use it for
- Sending you the newsletter you asked for
- Keeping evidence that you consented
- Making sure we never email you again after you unsubscribe, or if your address bounces or you mark a message as spam
We don’t track whether you open emails, and there are no tracking pixels.
Legal basis
Consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations). You can withdraw consent at any time.
Unsubscribing
Every email has an unsubscribe link. Many email apps also show an unsubscribe button. It takes effect immediately and we won’t email you again. You can also email [email protected].
Who processes your data
- Amazon Web Services stores subscriber data and sends the emails from its London (eu-west-2) region.
- Google Workspace receives any reply you send to us.
- Microsoft processes analytics data if you accept the cookie banner (see below).
We don’t sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Analytics and cookies
If you choose “Okay” on the cookie banner, this site loads Microsoft Clarity to see how people use it: pages visited, clicks, scrolling and device type. Clarity sets its own cookies. If you choose “Not okay”, Clarity isn’t loaded and no analytics cookies are set.
Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage. To change it, clear this site’s data in your browser and the banner will appear again.
Microsoft processes this data for us. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
The legal basis is consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR regulation 6).
How long we keep it
- Unconfirmed signups: deleted after 7 days.
- Subscribers: kept while you’re subscribed.
- After you unsubscribe, or your address bounces or is reported as spam: within 30 days we delete everything except a one-way hash of your email address. We keep the hash only to make sure we never email you again. If you sign up again later, we remove it.
- Technical logs: 14 days, with email addresses masked.
- Backups: kept up to 35 days. Data you ask us to delete disappears from backups when they expire.
Your rights
You can ask for:
- a copy of your data
- correction
- deletion
- restriction
- a copy in a portable format
You can also object to processing. Email [email protected] and we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
Changes
We’ll update this page if anything changes, and note the date at the top.
