YouTube Equipment

If you’re interested in what gear I use to shoot my YouTube videos, then you’ve come to the right place.

Cameras #

The main cameras I use to shoot videos

Sony A6600 #

The main camera I use for A-roll and B-roll. Not a full-frame, but I think a great starter camera for anyone starting out on YouTube. Also, cheaper than a full-frame camera. Although, the Sony A7C is a good alternative as that has recently come down in price.

Sony RX100 V #

When I shoot top-down videos, I occasionally use this. Especially if the Sony A6600 with the lens is too heavy for the tripod. This model has an in-built ND filter which I believe you won't find in the older RX100 models.

Sony ZV-E10 #

A recent addition which I also use for top-down or B-Roll shots. This is handy over the Sony RX100 as it doesn't have a limited 4k recording and an interchangeable lens. Although the RX100 is much lighter.

Lenses #

The lenses I use to shoot A-roll and B-roll videos.

Sony 16-55mm F2.8 G #

My primary lens and also on the expensive side. If you're looking for that single quality lens, then, this is it. Very versatile for close-up shots and wide shots. All A-roll and B-roll shot with this single

Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 #

The Sigma 18-50mm is a fantastic lens. Very similar to the Sony 16-55mm F2.8 G lens, just much cheaper. Had this come out sooner, I would have picked this up over the Sony 16.55mm F2.8 G lens.

Audio #

Audio is just as important as video, if not more important, and in my quest to find the perfect microphone, I’ve discovered the Shure MV7 and the Logitech Blue Sona. Personally, I prefer the Logitech Blue Sona as it can pick up my voice well as well as reduce the echo or reverb in my room, which is not sound treated at all.

Shure MV7 Microphone #

A great all-round dynamic microphone that has both USB and XLR connections. The slight annoying thing is that it's micro USB. But hey, you can plug into your laptop without an audio interface.

Logitech Blue Sona Microphone #

My preferred mic of choice, the Logitech Dynamic XLR microphone. It has a supercardioid pick up pattern and I find it's great for untreated rooms. You will need an audio interface for the XLR input such as the Audient EVO 4.

Other Items #

Evo Audient 4 #

This audio interface is what I use to capture audio from the Logitech Blue Sona XLR mic. You can plug up to 2 XLR microphones and can be connected to a Windows or Mac device via USB-C.

Elgato Wave Low Profile Mic Arm #

The mic arm that I use for YouTube A-Roll. It's not the best as the adjustment dials can get rather stiff, but its the best mic arm with a low profile.
